Moments of Voltage Trajectories for Stein's Model with Synaptic Reversal Potentials

چکیده

Expressions for the moments of the membrane potential in Stein's model with synaptic (excitatory and inhibitory) reversal potentials are presented. The mean and variance of the voltage trajectories are used to approximate the mean and standard deviation of the interspike intervals under certain conditions (Stein, 1967) that yield a small coefficient of variation. The limiting case of excitatory input only and negligible decay places a lower bound on the coefficient of variation of the interspike intervals. * Supported in part by Biomedical Research Support Grant Author to whom correspondence should be addressed RR0707l. Synchronization due to common pulsed input in Stein's model.

It is known that stimulus-evoked oscillatory synchronization among neurones occurs in widely separated cortical regions. In this paper we provide a possible mechanism to explain the phenomenon. When a common, random input is presented, we find that a group of neurones-of Stein's (integrate-and-fire) model type with or without reversal potentials-are capable of quickly synchronizing their firing...

Analysis of bursting in Stein's model with realistic synapses.

By introducing realistic synaptic potentials to the Stein's stochastic model of neuron we obtain a new model able to produce bursting activity. The mechanism of burst initiation is described and basic characteristics, such as period of bursting, period of quiescence and frequency of spikes are calculated from model parameters.

Characterization of spontaneous network-driven synaptic activity in rat hippocampal slice cultures

A particular characteristic of the neonatal hippocampus is the presence of spontaneous network-driven oscillatory events, the so-called giant depolarizing potentials (GDPs). GDPs depend on the interplay between GABA and glutamate. Early in development, GABA, acting on GABAA receptors, depolarizes neuronal membranes via a Cl- efflux. Glutamate, via AMPA receptors, generates a positive feedback n...

Synaptic transmission in a diffusion model for neural activity.

Equations for a diffusion neuronal model describing the production of nerve impulses have been derived for the case in which the noisy depolarizations of the membrane potential are restricted by the reversal potentials. Identifying neuron firing intervals with the first-passage-time distribution for the associated process allows us to compute the interspike interval statistics and relate them t...
